Securing an Associates degree in Radiology will qualify you to sit for the ARRT Radiography Exam. As a Registered Radiologic Technologist, you can work in Radiology, Fluoroscopy, Surgery, Outpatient Imaging, and Urgent Care facilities. *Certificate (Limited Scope) graduates have limited radiographer duties and employment opportunities.
Students interested in becoming Radiologic Technologists can expect to earn a competitive, high salary. In fact, the median salary for Radiographers in the U.S is around $62,000. Our Associate in Applied Science (AAS) two-year degree in Radiology is 76 credit hours and will equip you to enter the job market skilled and employable. You can also secure an MRT Limited Scope Certificate to apply for entry level jobs in the field. The Limited Scope Certificate Program is 46 credit hours.
To increase your earning power, students should always continue their education to continue to grow and learn in their fields of study. Graduates of the MRT Limited Scope Certificate Program may be eligible to progress to the fourth semester of the MRT A.A.S. Degree Program, based on meeting qualification requirements and seat availability.
All applications are due on June 1st by 11:59 p.m. for acceptance for the fall term.

Lawson State offers both a degree and certification program in Medical Radiologic Technology. Always speak with the Program Director regarding questions about which track to select. The AAS (Associate in Applied Science) degree has NO limitations, but the Certificate does have limitations. Hence, be sure you understand the difference for it can impact you in the workforce. Lawson State accepts applications for the Medical Radiologic Technology Program annually by June 1st no later than 11:59 p.m. Cohorts begin every fall.
RAD TECH Day Program: (Birmingham):
Lawson State Community College admits students to its RAD TECH day program once per
year for the fall term. This program is taught on the Birmingham campus only.
The Medical Radiologic Technology Program (MRT) is a selective admissions program that requires a special application and has specific application requirements. The application to the MRT program is competitive and meeting application requirements does not guarantee acceptance to the program. It is strongly recommended that the pre-professional courses below (highlighted in yellow) be completed before applying to the MRT program. While the courses are listed within the curriculum outline; the courses should be completed prior to applying to the Radiologic Technology program. With it being a competitive application process, higher grades can enhance an application.
Criteria (in terms of student selection) is established from assessing GPA's, student completion of pre-requisite courses, ACT exam outcomes, and grades achieved in Biology courses.
Eligiblity to Apply:
Each student is assessed by a Point System. Students must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA on the courses listed below and have an 18 on the ACT or ACT Residual to apply to the RAD Tech. Program. They must also complete specific pre-requisite courses (see Step 4) below for more information. Grades from all pre-requisite courses are used to evaluate entrance into the program.
The first step to apply to the RAD Tech Program is to apply to the College. Your status at Lawson must be Active.
If you have previously been accepted to LSCC, but have not attended the college for more than one semester; you may be required to complete a new application to the college and provide additional information.
Please check with the Admissions office before you complete the RAD application to ensure your acceptance is Unconditional.
Check your ACT score. All applications must have a score of 18 or higher on the ACT to apply to the RAD Tech Program. A minimum score of 18 is required without exception (academic history and/or achievements cannot be considered in place of the ACT requirement).
ACT SuperScores of 18 or higher are accepted.
There is no expiration on test dates.
ACT On-Campus (formerly ACT Residual) scores MUST be from an Alabama Community College;
ACT On-Campus scores from any institution outside of the Alabama Community College System WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Secure your UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT COPIES from ALL your college you have attended, including Lawson State for your RAD TECH application. Do NOT leave any colleges out.
You must upload ALL unofficial transcripts to your RAD TECH application regardless of whether or not they were previously submitted to the Admissions office (Including the Lawson State Community College transcripts).
We will NOT accept transfer credits listed on one transcript from a separate college, we need to see each transcript in its entirety. *It is the applicant's responsibility to obtain copies of each transcript from each institution previously attended and upload them to the application by the deadline. Failure to do so, will VOID your application.
Secure a copy of your official ACT scores. You will have to upload your scores to your online application.
