General Studies

General Studies is designed to give students who have not selected a specific Area of Concentration to focus on while at Lawson. Students selecting to study General Studies develop sharp critical-thinking and communication skills and enjoy greater flexibility in course options that align with their interest. Upon completion of a 2-year degree, General Studies students can transfer up to 64 credits to their transfer college. General Studies programs build their degrees around coursework, interests, and career goals, covering a wide range of topics. The flexibility of a general studies degree appeals to learners who have widely varied academic interests and transfer students whose existing credits do not fit easily into a single Area of Concentration. The Interdisciplinary coursework of a General Studies focus can prepare graduates for many career paths, depending on what classes they choose (The Best Schools, 2023).

Benefits of Choosing a General Studies Pathway

Our General Studies pathway is a two-year degree that will have you exiting Lawson State with 60 to 64 transferable credits.  That means that once you graduate from Lawson State, you will be able to enter your four-year college of choice as a junior and secure a 4-year degree (uppn completion of your junior/senior level courses). To  increase your earning power, many General Studies students continue their education and get their Masters degrees and doctorate degrees in the select majors, so the "sky is the limit".

All General Studies degrees are backed and protected by Alabama Transfers (Learn More).
