Communications Studies (Concentration)

Communication Studies is an Area of Concentration that falls under either Liberal Arts or General Studies at varying 4-year colleges. At the two-year level, it should not be confused with declaring a major; rather, it is a program track that is recognized by Alabama Transfers for the specific purpose of transferring to a four-year college. Upon completion of this course of study, students are awarded an Associate's degree that is transferable. At Lawson State, Communication Studies falls under the Humanities and Fine Arts Department. If you are you interested in communication, writing for the digital landscape, teaching, or analytical and creative thinking, come and explore the Communication Studies concentration in the Humanities and Fine Arts Department at Lawson State.

Benefits of Choosing a Career in the  Communication Field

Students studying communications can work in "private, government, and non-profit sectors....Career paths can lead to marketing, public relations, K-12 and higher education, communication consulting, information technology, social and digital media, financial services, healthcare, and manufacturing. Those who acquire 4-year degrees can pursue employment opportunities with consulting firms, public relations agencies, [academia] and healthcare providers, publishing organizations, community organizations, marketing research companies, local, state and national government agencies, or any other business or organization in need of trained communication professionals" (Masters , 2023, para. 1.)

Our Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate and Science (AS) two-year degrees range from 60 to 64 transferable credits.  That means that once you graduate from Lawson State, you will be able to enter your four-year college of choice as a junior and secure a 4-year degree. To  increase your earning power, many Social Science students continue their education and get their Masters degrees and doctorate degrees in the select majors, so the "sky is the limit".

All Communicaton AA and AS degrees are backed and protected by Alabama Transfers (Learn More).
