Arts Education (Concentration)

Arts Education is an Area of Concentration that falls under Liberal Arts at varying 4-year colleges. At the two-year level, it should not be confused with declaring a major; rather, it is a program track that is recognized by Alabama Transfers for the specific purpose of transferring to a four-year college. Upon completion of this course of study, students are awarded an Associate in Arts (AA) 2-year degree that is transferable. Art Education is a part of the Humanities and Fine Arts Department at Lawson State. Humanities and Fine Arts disciplines cover a variety of disciplines, but they do share one thing in common; they focus on man's contributions to the arts whether we are talking performance based, art based, music based, language based, etc.... Students who explore career pathways in the Humanities and Fine arts may be interested in the following areas: Art, Art History, English, Foreign languages, Photography, Film and Television, Music, Theater and more.

Benefits of Choosing a Career in Arts Education

Arts education is an unique field that requires passion, dedication, and a love for teaching. If you have an artistic background and an interest in teaching, then a career in art education may be a great fit for you.

Performing Arts scholarships are available to high school graduates.  Lawson State is a small institution where students receive more personal attention and guidance. Instructors are deeply interested in mentoring students to be successful at their next institution and in their
growth as adult learners. In the art classes there are hands-on training opportunities in various media and small class critiques. Well-equipped studios and exhibition opportunities await those students choosing this concentration.

Our Associate of Arts (AA) and Associate and Science (AS) two-year degrees range from 60 to 64 transferable credits.  That means that once you graduate from Lawson State, you will be able to enter your four-year college of choice as a junior and secure a 4-year degree. To  increase your earning power, many Arts and Humanities students continue their education and get their Masters degrees and doctorate degrees in the select career pathways.

All Arts and Humanities AA and AS degrees are backed and protected by Alabama Transfers (Learn More).
