150 Flags Honor Alabama Veterans and Call for Support

Lawson State Community College partnered with Operation We Remember on September 16 and 17, a veterans suicide prevention awareness campaign that raises awareness about veteran suicides.

150 American flags were placed on both our Bessemer and Birmingham campuses to honor the 150 veterans in the state of Alabama in 2024 who died by suicide.

The campaign served to acknowledge the struggles faced by some veterans, with a focus on the great need for support and resources. Operation We Remember also focused on breaking the stigma surrounding mental health issues for veterans.

If you or a veteran you know is in crisis, help is available 24/7 through the Veterans Crisis Line: dial 988 and press 1, text 838255, or chat at VeteransCrisisLine.net.
