Lawson State Community College and Birmingham Promise are expanding pathways for local students through streamlined admissions, scholarships, and student-centered support. During a recent orientation event, college leaders highlighted how these partnerships help students move from high school to college and into careers.
While much of May is dedicated to graduation celebrations and student achievements the whole idea of 'Maycember' is real-it's also a time to focus on what's possible and what's next.
That message was front and center as Lawson State President Dr. Cynthia T. Anthony addressed students and families during this semester's final Birmingham Promise orientation. She highlighted the powerful role two-year colleges play in opening doors and expanding opportunity.
One standout example is Lawson student and recent Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship recipient Taylor Grace. She credits Lawson's strong sense of community and faculty support for helping shape her journey. A STEM Scholar and Thurgood Marshall College Fund scholarship recipient, Taylor is now completing an internship at a naval air base.
Her experience has made an impact beyond her own success-her younger sister will attend Lawson State this fall.
Lawson State's partnership with the Birmingham Promise continues to create meaningful pathways for students, something the organization values, according to CEO Samantha Williams.
During the session, Enrollment Specialist Adonis Bozeman also guided students and families through the admissions process, reinforcing that the transition from the Birmingham Promise to Lawson State is seamless and student-centered.
