Lawson State Annual Career and Community Resource Fair Set to Draw Hundreds

BIRMINGHAM (March 9, 2026) - Dozens of businesses and nonprofit organizations will be on hand to meet Lawson State students and residents at the college's upcoming Career and Community Resource Fair set for Wednesday, March 11 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Bessemer Civic Center. The annual Career and Community Resource Fair, organized by the Office of Career and College Transfer Services, is free and open to the public

The event includes a strong mix of employers, public agencies, military partners and community organizations, all of them committed to supporting workforce development and community well-being.

Some of the participating employers include: FedEx, Spire, ProcessBarron, Alabama Power, PGI Steel, TruckWorx and Trane Commercial. That's in addition to financial and corporate representation from AmFirst Credit Union and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama. Representatives from local media outlet WIAT-TV and hospitality partner Marriott Courtyard Birmingham Homewood will also meet with students and attendees.

"Ultimately, this is more than a career fair," said Akilih Haley, Career and College Transfer Services Coordinator at Lawson State. "This annual event allows Lawson State to fully engage with our community, especially those residents and students who want to speak directly with employers and organizations. It's a great opportunity to spend time with our partners and stakeholders."

Attendees will also be able to meet with organizations that provide public services and community support. A few include the Birmingham Police Department, Bessemer Police Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Addiction Prevention Coalition, and One Roof. Representatives will offer information about services to help strengthen families and provide valuable resources.

Lawson State leaders will be there too, representing admissions, financial aid, and human resources. Lawson State nursing students will be there to provide complimentary wellness checks and share information about various health professions programs.
