While summer is often associated with fun and relaxation, it is also a time for getting ahead-especially for students who are preparing to enter college.
Lawson State's upcoming Mini-Term 2 gives incoming freshmen and current students, too-the opportunity to take courses in a low-pressure environment. Plus, they can easily get to know the college's campuses in Bessemer and Birmingham.
"One of the biggest advantages of taking a mini-term course is the learning that happens in a smaller class," said Stephon Adams, director of admissions for Lawson State. "This is the time of year when you can get even more one-on-one time with instructors."
Mini-Term 2 is also attractive to students who are enrolled at other colleges and universities. Often, they will complete a course at Lawson State and look to transfer the credits back to their home institution-but for less money out of pocket, Mr. Adams explained.
There are other reasons, too:
"Ultimately, we are here to help students achieve their goals," said Mr. Adams. "For newcomers that might mean assisting them with a smoother adjustment to college life and for others, helping them manage the rigorous demands of being a Lawson State student."
