Reporting Computer Problems
(Directions for Employees to Complete Our Online Reporting Process)
Note to Students & Employees Using Personal Computers/Laptops:
* Only Lawson State Employees using laptops or computers purchased by the college are eligible for repair. We do not work on personal computers, please do not ask us to do this.
If you are a student who is attempting to report a problem with a specific computer in one of our many Lawson State Computer Labs, please find a Lawson State Employee and inform them of the problem and ask them to report the problem to the Lawson State MIS Department. There are many variables which you as a student will not be aware of that are required for the proper submission of helpdesk ticket such as the Building Code or Room Number where the problem is occurring. This employee may be a faculty member or lab proctor in a classroom computer lab, or a librarian or library assistant in one of our Learning Resource Centers
PRIOR TO REPORTING ANY COMPUTER PROBLEM, PLEASE REBOOT THE MACHINE IN QUESTION.
In order for the Lawson State Community College MIS Department to address all PC related problems please follow the following protocol.

Summary Field: Laptop Problem
Description Field: Be very specific in your description of the problem, the more information you provide us with the more likely we will be able to quickly fix your problems.
At least two specific times when you will be able to deliver the problem laptop to the MIS Office - Room A211 (Birmingham Campus)
Laptops will be dropped off at the MIS Office for repair. When you first report a problem please let us know a few different times of day when you will be able to drop off the laptop. We will respond to your request with the specific time someone will be available to receive your laptop.
When we have completed work on your laptop you will be notified via email when you will be able to pickup the laptop from the MIS Office.
*Include a post it note with your username and password closed inside the laptop itself (set it on keyboard and then close the screen down) If you do not include a note with your username and password the MIS Department will reset your password in order to gain access to the system. This will prevent you from logging onto your desktop computer as well as email so it is important to make sure that you do not skip this step.
