The Federal TRIO Programs (TRIO) are Federal outreach and student services programs that are designed to identify and provide services for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds.
WELCOME
TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) at Lawson State Community College is a federally funded program by the U.S. Department of Education that assists a select group of students in adjusting to college life and successfully pursuing an associate degree. SSS utilizes a holistic approach in providing support services for students by focusing on academic, social, and cultural aspects of the college experience. Through academic counseling, advice with course selection, individualized tutoring, workshops, career exploration, and social and cultural activities, SSS helps students build a solid foundation for success. SSS also connects students to other LSCC programs and support services that expose students to educational opportunities, as well as cultural involvement, to promote a well-rounded college experience.
Program Mission-The mission of the Student Support Services (SSS) program at Lawson State Community College is to meet the educational, social and personal needs of a diverse student population and to maximize their full academic potential. The SSS Program seeks to solve social, economic and educational problems of first-generation, income eligible and students with disabilities by providing group and individual support services.
Purpose and Goals-The purpose of the program is to increase graduation and retention rates among the population served. The goals of the program are to provide academic support services that help students develop skills that build classroom success, create a supportive learning environment, aid in developing an appreciation for diversity and expose students to cultural and social experiences that will promote the development and maintenance of self-esteem. LSCC has one SSS Program on each of its campuses. Each SSS Program is funded to serve a specific number of eligible students.
Program Eligibility-To be eligible for the SSS program a student must meet at least one of the following criteria (1) neither of your parents has a 4-year degree, (2) you meet specific federal income guidelines federal income guidelines and/or (3) you possess a documented disability.

Classic UPWARD BOUND
Lawson State Community College Classic Upward Bound is a pre-college program dedicated tie helping high school students prepare for college or vocational-technical schools.
The programs academic and cultural activities help students reach their full academic potential.
Goal-The goal of Upward Bound is to improve academic performance and motivational levels of students do that they may complete secondary school and successfully pursue post-secondary educational programs.
Program Service Eligibility- Students who family income is within the federal requirements and/or student who will be a first-generation college student (meaning that neither parent has completed a 4 year college degree.
