Miss Lawson State, Beatrice Collins

Beatrice Collins was born and reared in Mobile, AL. She is a cousin of Coretta Scott King. Her major is Business Administration and Management and she currently has a 4.0 grade point average.  At Lawson State, she’s President of Phi Beta Lambda, President of Kappa Beta Delta, President of Phi Theta Kappa, 1st Vice President of the Lawson State Ambassadors, an active Student Support Services Peer Tutor and a member of TRIO Student Support Services.  She recently won three first place events at the Phi Beta Lambda State Leadership Conference in Sales Presentation, Parliamentary Procedure, and Who’s Who in Alabama. She received the TRIO Most Outstanding Student Award and won the $1,000 Kappa Beta Delta Scholarship in 2014.  Miss Collins’ ultimate educational goal is to graduate and obtain a Master’s Degree in Human Services at Spelman College.  She also plans to become a real estate broker and successful entrepreneur of a hair salon and day care center. Her hobbies are: spending time with her family, horseback-riding, styling hair, modeling, learning ballroom and swing dancing, cooking, working out, traveling, and volunteering where assistance is needed.  She has realized that helping others is one of her purposes in life and is grateful to have a passion that is internally rewarding. She wants to thank all of her family especially her father, grandmother, grandfather, and aunt for their tough love and guidance. She’s also grateful for the support she has obtained from her Pastor and extended family here at Lawson State Community College.  Her motto is “Faith is taking the first step even when you can’t see the whole staircase”- Martin Luther King, Jr.



First Attendant, Jalia Wilkins

Jalia Wilkins born in Birmingham, Alabama, proudly graduated with a Diploma of Distinction from Minor High School. While attending Minor, Jalia took part in an array of organizations such as Color Guard, the Minor High Band, Magic City Alumni All-Star Band, Students Against Drunk Driving, the debate team, and the Multi-Cultural Heritage Club serving as chaplain. She also took part in Lawson State’s Trio Classic Upward Bound Program where she served as vice president of the senior class. After four successful years in high school, she continued to pursue her education by attending Lawson State Community College with a major in criminal justice and currently has a grade point average of 3.62.  During her freshman year, she made the Lawson State Golden Essence Dance Team and became a part of the Student Government Association, where she held office as chaplain. As a member of the SGA, Jalia participated in numerous community service projects including the MLK Day of Service, Music and Memory, Dance the Dream, Firehouse Shelter Project, Healthcare for the Homeless, and Big Brother Big Sister. She is one of the captains of Lawson State’s Golden Essence Dance Team, member of the Student Government Association, serving as Sophomore Class Chaplain and Vice President of Marketing.  She is also a member of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, Cougar Crew, Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society; and she volunteers her time with Lawson State’s Trio Classic Upward Bound Program tutoring and mentoring high school students. After graduating from Lawson State, Jalia plans on continuing her education by attending Jacksonville State University with a major in Criminal Justice and a minor in forensics science in order to pursue her career as a forensic scientist. Her motto is “For as the body is one, and hath many members of the body, being many, are one body;”-1 Corinthians 12:12


Second Attendant, Fernisia Green

Fernisia Green mostly known as Nisi, is a 2013 graduate of St. Clair County High School which is in Odenville, AL.  She was actively involved in many things throughout her high school career such as, The Beta Club, Math Team, a Math tutor, Sports Medicine (trainer) for all the sports, and a mat maid for the wrestling team.  Her major is Pre-Medicine and her grade point average is 3.7.  She is a Lawson State Ambassador and a new member of Phi Theta Kappa.  Fernisia is actively involved in the Youth Leadership Development Program for high school seniors.  She enjoys giving back to the community and loves lending a helping hand to anyone who needs it.  In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, painting and roller skating.  Upon graduating from Lawson State, she plans to further her education at Troy University to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine.  She hopes to one day become a Sports Medicine Physician. Her favorite verse and motto is Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ that strengthens me.”
