All new students must complete and have on file an Application for Admission. An official copy of the student’s high school transcript certificate of General Educational Development (GED) should accompany the application of a first time college student. An official copy of the student’s college transcript(s) should also accompany the application if the student has attended another postsecondary institution. Transient students must submit a transient form or letter of good standing from the student’s home institution prior to registration. Students intending to enroll under the “Ability to Benefit” provision must submit an official copy of the CPAT score before admission. Students must also complete and submit the Certification of Selective Service Registration and the Alabama College System Certificate of Eligibility for In-State Residency forms with the Application for Admission.
All students
who intend to register for credit courses leading to a Certificate or
Associate Degree and who do not meet any criteria for exemption must
take the COMPASS test. Contact the Student Development Services
Office at 929-6385 or 426-7494 to schedule COMPASS testing. NOTE: Applicants who do not have a high school diploma or GED and intend to receive federal financial aid under the “Ability to Benefit” provision, must take the CPAT Test which is administered external to the college. Please contact the Student Development Services office for scheduling information. An applicant with a documented disability who needs accommodations to take the COMPASS or CPAT test should contact the Student Development Services office at least two weeks in advance of the testing date.

INPUT/PICK-UP Birmingham
Campus - Several input stations are located throughout the Gym to enter
student schedules into the computer system. Students will receive a
printout of their course schedule and the cost to attend for the
semester. Bessemer Campus – Advisors will input the students’
schedule during their office visit. Students will pick-up their
schedule in the Registrar’s Office, Room 192, Student Services Center. STEP 5 – FINANCIAL
AID/SCHOLARSHIPS All students intending to apply for various financial assistance grants and awards toward full or partial payment of tuition and fees must have all applicable award letters and award authorizations on file in the Office of Student Financial Services prior to registration. This applies to the following financial assistance programs:
~ Grants – Federal
Pell, College Work-Study, SEOG, ASAP
STEP 6 – BUSINESS AFFAIRS
– PAYMENT OF STUDENT TUITION AND FEES NOTE: All
students must complete this step! All tuition and fees are due at the
time of registration. A student is not officially registered until
tuition and fees are paid or assumed by financial assistance. Locations

Building (Gym) STEP 7 – STUDENT
I.D. AND PARKING DECAL Students must
present a copy of the Schedule Confirmation in order for their Student
I.D. card to be processed. College personnel will initial the Schedule
Confirmation and issue the I.D. card. ** I.D. cards will not be
made without a copy of the student’s Schedule Confirmation.

Services Center, Building A, College Cashier/Bookstore Lobby **Initial cost for ID and
Decal (no fee) ATTENTION:
All pre-registered students--if you are on Academic Warning, Probation,
Suspension, ineligible for financial assistance, or have a financial
obligation to the college, please report to the Retention Station in the
Arthur Shores Fine Arts Building (Gym) – Birmingham Campus. Reporting
to Class: If your academic status is clear and you have
satisfied your financial obligation to the college, report to class on
January 7, 2006. Remember, absences are counted from the FIRST DAY OF
CLASSES. If you have been cleared to receive financial aid, but
are awaiting final clearance, still report to class. Never sit
out of class awaiting for financial aid clearance. Always go to class.
Additional
Information: Pertinent dates affecting withdrawal and late
registration are noted on the college calendar and distributed to all
students. When credit hours are increased or decreased during the
Drop/Add period, tuition and fee charges are adjusted accordingly. REFUND POLICY The Refund Policy is applicable to tuition, instructional fees, and facility renewal fees only. Refund for Complete Withdrawal Students who officially or unofficially withdraw from all classes before the first day of class will be refunded the total tuition and other institutional charges. A student who officially or unofficially withdraws completely on or after the first day of class will be refunded according to the withdrawal date, as follows:
Administrative Fee: Administrative fee not to exceed 5 percent of tuition and other institutional charges or $100, whichever is smaller, shall be assessed for each withdrawal within the period beginning the first day of class ending at the third week of class.
Book and
Supplies: Students who withdraw and who have purchased
returnable books, and/or supplies from the College and return the items
in new/unused condition by the end of the third week of the semester
will be refunded the full purchased price. Books and/or supplies
returned in used condition by the end of the third week of the semester
will be refunded fifty percent (50%) of purchase price. |
