Policies

Children in the Library Policy

Lawson State Library adheres to the policy of Children on Campus adopted by the Administrative Cabinet in the institution’s policies and procedures. It is the mission of the Library to provide materials needed for its users. This extends to community residents and children using the library. Internet access is also available to students and children.  However, due to the content of information available on the Internet, children over the age of ten must provide written permission from their parents or legal guardians to utilize this valuable resource. Children under ten must be supervised by their guardian or parent while on the system. A permission letter is available on the web and circulation desk.
The following guidelines must be adhered to in relation to children using the Library.
Children under age ten must be directly supervised by an adult at all times in the library.

Children ten years and older may use age appropriate books and online resources when accompanied by an adult, or when there is a permission letter on file.

Students age fourteen to eighteen may check out books and other resources with a signed permission
letter from parents or guardians.    Computer Usage Policy Library  Learning Resource Center (LRC) Computer Lab You will be able to explore the World Wide Web, access scholarly databases and Microsoft Office software.  The Internet is available on all computers in the LRC; however, due to the limited number of computers, guidelines are enforced by library staff to ensure fair accessibility to all users.  The library staff does not monitor nor has any control over the information accessed on the Internet and is not responsible for its contents.  Free computer use is equally available to all students, faculty and staff of Lawson State Community College and community users with the proper identification.

Guidelines for Computer

2. Each user must sign the Computer Sign-In Log prior to accessing any computer (users may be asked to show their college identification card or driver’s license.)

3. Each user is limited to one hour of computer use. 4. Members of the community may use computers for research purposes  but  must relinquish use if needed by a student or faculty member of LSCC. Users must be at least twelve years of age and accompanied by an adult if under age eighteen. 5. Computer use is provided for research purposes and office purposes only. Chat Lines, games, and downloading of music and other inappropriate materials are prohibited. 6. Specific computers are designed in the library lab for personal floppy disk. 7. Users who plan to make extensive print-outs should e-mail information to home computers or use other computer labs. 8. Violation of the above policies will result in loss of computer privileges for the remainder of the semester.
