Testing Guidances at Lawson State

As a faculty member at Lawson State, please ensure you adhere to the following Testing Guidelines when administering quizzes and exams.  These guidelines have been established based on best practices in higher education.  Please be advised that when administering exams, you must consider that not all students process information the same.  Meaning, some students may need more processing time and answer questions than others.  Thus, when setting time limits and/ore restrictions, consider the various students you teach.

Guidelines:

Quizzes:
Limits quizzes to  20 or under questions.
Provide students with  no less than 1 minute response time per question.  More time should be alloted given the complexity of the questions posed.  Review your quiz closely to estimate if more time is needed.

Tests:  Limit tests to under 51 questions
Provide students with no less than a 1 to 1.5 minutes response time per question  More time should be alloted given the complexity of the questions posed.  Review your test closely to estimate if more time is needed.

Final Exams:  Limit tests to under 101 questions
Provide students with no less than a  1 to 1.5 minutes response time per question.  More time should be alloted given the complexity of the questions posed.
Be sure to provide students with up to 2 hours for a final exam.  Hence, adjust the number of questions, so your test does not require more than 120 minutes of student processing.

Testing Online:
If you are administering a test online, be sure to use either Respondus or Proctor U.  Also, be sure to provide directions for students who may face technical issues during testing.
