ProctorU

Overview and Technology Requirements

All Distance Education students are required to take their Mid-term and Final Exams via Proctor U, an online proctoring service or via an official, approved testing center.

Don't Want to Use ProctorU (and get tested at home)?  You Can Set up Your Proctoring Via an Authorized Testing :

Lawson State has a testing center, but has limited availability.  Thus, click the links below to locate Alternative Means to Get Tested Via a "live" Proctor.  Lawson State is NOT affiliated with any of these testing center.

Option 1 (in state).  Not ALL listed
Option 2 (out of state students)

Proctor U provides online proctoring of students (via the Internet) from the privacy of one's home.  In other words, you can test right at home while an online proctor looks and monitors your exam visually through the use of a remote cameras.  Your Technology Fee (that you paid when you paid your tuition) covers the Proctor U fee, so no payment is due at the time of testing.  When you take an exam online, the student registers via Proctor U and schedules the date and time to take their exam, given the testing parameters the online instructor has set for testing.  Students can also opt to come to the Lawson's Testing Center to take the test via a "live" proctor.  However, you will still need to register and take the exam (via Proctor U).   In all cases (whether online or in person) an online students must present an official form of identification to validate their identity.  Proctor U also requires testers to answer specific questions to verify one's identify.

Testing Fees

As ground courses have built in expenses (gas to travel to campus), distance education courses have built in fees as well, mainly testing fees.  Thus, ProctorU is not a free service.  The testing fees are below and all eCollege students are required to pay these fees if they opt to use the ProctorU service.

Plan Ahead and Save on Testing Fees

Lawson State is NOT responsible for making any payments to ProctorU.  Payment of all proctoring fess will be the obligation of the individual eCollege student who has elected to take an online course.  Any charges applicable to the examine must be paid with a credit or debit card.  The eCollege student will be required to enter payment information into a secure page connected to a third-party card processing company.  The page is encrypted and ProctorU does not see or store credit card/debit card data.  eCollege students will have to re-enter payment information each time a new charge or charges are incurred.

2.  Test your equipment two hours  before testing

Equipment Needed Prior to Testing:

Proctor U requires three critical pieces of equipment in order for your test to be proctored: (1) a computer with Internet access and (2) a mountable (not built in) camera as pictured below; and (3) a audio w/microphone headset.  All equipment  should always be tested prior to your exam.  These types of cameras can be purchased in any major chain to include Walmart, Target, etc...  The cost is minimal.  It is recommend that all online students purchase their camera at the same time they secure their textbook.

ProctorU is an online proctoring service that allows students to take exams online while ensuring the integrity of the exam for the institution. The service uses proctors who monitor exam takers in three ways. ProctorU proctors
  • Authenticate the test taker’s identity to ensure that the person being monitored is the correct student.
  • Observe the test taker via a webcam. The student is connected to a real person who guides him/her through the process.
  • Watch the test taker's screen in real time and can see everything the student is doing both at the location and on screen.
