Coach Niva Roberson
Niva Roberson is in her 15th year as an educator. She has spent the majority of her educational career in the Birmingham City and Homewood City Schools systems. Her curriculum emphasis was in the area of Family and Consumer Sciences grades 6-12. However, her current position allows her to mentor and counsel at-risk youth at Homewood Middle School.
Outside the classroom, Roberson brings 11 years of cheer coaching experience with certifications in AACCA safety certification and USASF certified level 1-5. She has served as Head Cheerleading Coach at the high school, collegiate and competitive levels throughout Birmingham City Schools, Samford University and ACE All Stars of Alabama. Her cheerleading squads have received many recognitions, awards and national titles.
Roberson received her BS in Family and Consumer Sciences from the University of Montevallo. Niva and her husband, Birmingham City Councilman Jay Roberson, have three children Lia, Tre and Ava.
Auxiliaries Coordinator Katrina Harrell
Katrina Harrell has been an educator for over 18 years, serving Lawson State for 14 years. Her primary position is an enrollment specialist at Lawson. She has been involved with dance for over 30 years. She has danced and coached for numerous years throughout high school, college and community. In 2002, Katrina (along with a former co-worker) founded the "Golden Essece" Dance Team of Lawson State. For nine years, she was the head coach and in 2011, she was given the opportunity to coordiante both dance team and cheerleaders. Katrina received her BS from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and her MS from Alabama A&M University. She is married to Dexter Harrell and the two have two daughters, Chasity & Kera.
