Reserve your seat for Pre-enrollment orientation here and read the STEPS below.
All first-time or transfer applicants are invited (and strongly encouraged) to attend new student orientation. New students classified in other ways (non-degree seeking, dual enrollment / accelerated high school program or transient status) need not attend new student orientation. Pre-Enrollment Orientation includes sessions for learning more about the college, academic advisement, registering for classes, and also includes information on subjects such as financial aid, the tuition management plan, residential life, athletics, and much more. So, attending pre-enrollment orientation is a good way to begin here. This orientation is not for dual enrollment students. A separate Dual Enrollment Orientation is sponsored by the college.
Note that those applicants classified as non-high school graduates must take a special assessment to establish ability-to-benefit prior to being admitted. Such applicants may attend new student orientation but may not pre-register for classes until they have been admitted based on their ability-to-benefit scores. Call 205-929-6385 for more information.
Unless exempt, please take the Placement Assessment prior to attending new student orientation. If you are not exempt but cannot take the placement assessment before your anticipated orientation session, note that a limited number of students may take the placement assessment during daytime new student orientation sessions. NOTE: Assessments are not offered during evening new student orientation sessions. The placement assessment participation during new student orientation sessions will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Pre-Enrollment Orientation participants are encouraged to bring their ACT score reports with them to orientation. Visit www.act.org to acquire the ACT score report.
Follow these Steps Prior to Coming to Pre-Enrollment Orientation
Prepare for the placement test . The placement test must be taken before you visit a counselor to pre-register for classes (unless you are otherwise exempt or are using ACT score results instead of taking the Placement Assessment. Prepare by working through our free online Boot Camp below or via our additional free online tutorials. It is important that you score as high as possible on the test, for results are used to place you in either college level courses or developmental courses (remedial). Thus, the higher your score, the better. Spending time preparing for the test will only help you as a college student, so take the test seriously.
