First-time College Students
Definition: A student has never attended a college or university.
Submit an official copy of your high school transcript or GED certificated/scores to the Office of Admissions & Records. The transcript must include the date of graduation and must be on file prior to admission or during the first term of enrollment. Applicants who have attended a non- regionally accredited high school or possess the Alabama Occupational Diploma (AOD) must also have a minimum ACT composite score of 16, Equivalent SAT, or successfully pass the GED for admission into the degree programs.
Applicants without a high school diploma or GED may be admitted to certain certificate programs provided they have demonstrated the "Ability to Benefit" through testing (SEE LIST BELOW). Applicants in this category should contact the Division of Student Services at (205) 929-6383 to arrange a session of the Career Placement and Assessment Test (CPAT).
Students demonstrating the "Ability to Benefit" may enter one of the following programs:

Transfer Students
Definition: A student who has attended another college or university.
Submit official transcript from all colleges attended. If a baccalaureate degree has been earned, only the transcript from the institution granting the degree is required. However, transcripts from the intuition(s) granting credit are required if one wishes to have credits applied towards a degree or certificate. Transfer students who have earned fewer than twenty-four semester hours or thirty-six quarter hours may be required to submit an official high school transcript in addition to college transcript(s). International students who have earned credits a foreign college or university may submit an evaluated document for consideration of credit. The following credentialing services may be used: World Education Services, Inc. http://www.wes.org or Educational Credential Evaluators, Inc. http://www.ece.org. Evaluations should be forwarded to LSCC directly from one of these providers.
Transient Students
Definition: A student who is attending/seeking a degree from another institution, but wishes to attend LSCC for one term.
Submit an official letter of good standing or transient student form from the degree-seeking/home institution. This letter must list the term for which the student wishes to enroll at LSCC. Students who wishes to enroll in mathematics courses must provide proof of having meet prerequisites. Contact Office of Admissions & Records in advance should you have questions about mathematics course requirements.
Re-admitted Students
Definition: A student who has previously attended LSCC but has not attended for a period of time or the previous fall or spring term.
An updated "Application for Admission" is required whether the student attended another college/university Submit a transcript(s) from institution attended since last attending LSCC.
Accelerated High School Students
Students may take courses which fulfill college requirements during the junior and senior years in high school. Upon graduation from high school, the student may enroll at LSCC or transfer college credits earned to another college or university. Please note that course content, instructional strategy and academic rigor of all classes is based on the college level.
The student must have successfully completed the 10th grade.
The student must have completed any required high school prerequisites (for example, a student may not take English Composition until all required high school English courses have been completed.) The student must also take COMPASS/ASSET test or have appropriate ACT or SAT score.
The local principal or his or her designee must certify that the student has a minimum cumulative "B" average and recommended that the student be admitted to this program. A letter must be submitted each semester that the student attends the college.
LSCC will not officially award college credit to accelerated high school students until proof of high school graduation (an official transcript with a graduation date) is provided.
Exceptions may be made to requirements one and two above for students documented as gifted and talented according to the standards included in the State Plan of Exceptional Children and Youth. Permission must be obtained from the chancellor of the Alabama College System.
Dual Enrollment Students
Students may receive both high school credit and college credit. The program is restricted to qualified students in Alabama public and/or regionally accredited high schools in which superintendents have signed an agreement with LSCC. Student eligibility is determined by each individual school system and may be more limited than the minimum requirements listed below:
The student must have a "B" average in completed high school courses.
The student must have written approval of his or her principal an the local superintendent of education.
The student must be in grade 10, 11, or 12.
Students must complete a six-hour sequence of courses to receive one unit of high school credit. (Three semester hours equal one-half high school unit of credit.)
In-state Residency Requirements
To be deemed eligible for in-state tuition, applicant must (1) be a United States citizen or be a non-citizen who has been granted permanent residency status by the United States government; and (2) the applicant must be either (A) a duly registered resident in the state of State of Alabama for at least 12 months immediately preceding application for admission, or (B) have a non-estranged spouse who has resided and had habitation, home and permanent abode in the State of Alabama for at least 12 months immediately preceding application for admission, or (C) in the case of a minor dependent seeking admission, have parents, parent, or legal guardian who have/has resided in the State of Alabama for at least 12 months immediately preceding application for admission. If parents are divorced, the residency of the parent to whom the court has granted custody will determine residence. All accelerated classes are held in escrow until a high school diploma is granted and an official transcript is submitted to the Office of Admissions and Records.
