ACCOUNTING TECHNOLOGY
The Accounting Technology Program trains students with skills in preparing, analyzing, and verifying financial documents. Moreover, the Business and Information Technologies Department assist in giving each student the self-confidence, maturity, and ability to work independently. The programs are designed to give each student excellent skills in mathematical and computer skills, analytic and problem solving skills, oral and written communication skills, and strong interpersonal skills. As with other industries, technology plays an integral role in the accounting field. Computer applications, database and spreadsheet classes complement the core curriculum with an emphasis on computerized accounting applications. Co-op is required of each student in the degree program.

ACCOUNTING – STARS Transfer
The Associate of Arts for Business Administration Transfer
The Associate in Arts for Accounting Transfer Program is designed for students who are planning to transfer into baccalaureate degree programs in accounting at four-year institutions. The coursework includes the basic accounting courses that are generally acceptable to the transfer institution. The major emphasis is on completion of general education requirements that are part of the senior institution's requirements for accounting majors. These are in the liberal arts areas of math, science, humanities, and social sciences. Students enrolling in this transfer program should be aware of the course requirements and application of transfer credits at the institutions to which they are considering transferring. Each student should work closely with the STARS program, their advisor, and transfer counselor to be sure that their requirements are sufficient.

ACCOUNTING TECHNOLOGY (ACT)
ACT 246 - Microcomputer Accounting - 3 Hours Prerequisite(s): ACT 141 and/or as required by program This course utilizes the microcomputer in the study of financial accounting principles and practices. Emphasis is placed on the use of software programs for financial accounting applications. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to use software programs for financial accounting applications.
ACT 247 - Advanced Accounting applications on the computer - Hours Prerequisite(s): ACT 246 and/or as required by program In this course, students use the microcomputer in managerial accounting. Emphasis is on a variety of software programs for managerial accounting applications. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to use various managerial accounting software programs.
ACT 249 - Payroll Accounting - 3 Hours Prerequisite(s): ACT 145 or ACT 141 and/or as required by program This course focuses on federal, state and local laws affecting payrolls. Emphasis is on payroll accounting procedures and practices, and on payroll tax reports. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to apply knowledge of federal, state and local laws affecting payrolls.
ACT 253 - Individual Income Tax - 3 Hours Prerequisite(s): BUS 210, 241, and/or as required by program This course focuses on the fundamentals of the federal income tax laws with primary emphasis on those affecting the individual. Emphasis is on gross income determination, adjustments to income, business expenses, itemized deductions, exemption, capital gains/losses, depreciation, and tax credits. Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to apply the fundamentals of the federal income tax laws affecting the individual.

ACC 129 - Individual Income taxes - 3 Hours Prerequisite(s): As required by program This course introduces the relevant laws governing individual income taxation. Emphasis is placed on filing status, exemptions for dependents, gross income, adjustments, deductions, and computation of tax. Upon completion, students should be able to complete various tax forms pertaining to the topics covered in the course.

Payroll Accounting

2Hours This course covers federal and state laws pertaining to wages, payroll taxes, payroll tax forms, and journal and general ledger transactions. Emphasis is placed on computing wages; preparing appropriate payroll tax forms; and journalizing/posting transactions. Upon completion, students should be able to analyze data, make appropriate computations, complete forms, and prepare accounting entries.
ACC 149 - Intro To Accounting SPREADSHEETS- 3 Hours Prerequisite(s): ACC 115 or ACC 241 and/or as required by program This course provides a working knowledge of computer spreadsheets and their use in accounting. Topics include pre-programmed problems, model-building problems, beginning-level macros, graphics, and what-if analysis enhancements of template problems. Upon completion, students should be able to use a computer spreadsheet to complete many of the tasks required in accounting.
Prerequisite(s): ACC 115 and/or as required by program This course introduces microcomputer applications related to the major accounting systems. Topics include general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, inventory, payroll, and correcting, adjusting, and closing entries. Upon completion, students should be able to use a computer accounting package to solve accounting problems.
