Narrative:

Lawson State Community College has adequate procedures for addressing written student complaints and is responsible for demonstrating that it follows those procedures when resolving student complaints. The Student Grievance Procedures are published in the Student Catalog and Handbook, pages 53-55 (Student Grievance Procedures). The procedures are available in print and online.  The College is committed to making every effort to resolve any problem that develops among students, between student(s) and instructor(s), or students and other college personnel. The College promptly addresses complaints through appropriate channels.

If a student has a complaint, the student must make a formal written complaint and submit the complaint to the appropriate College administrator.  Any student who wishes to make a complaint about an academic matter shall report the complaint in writing to the Vice President for Instructional Services.  Other types of complaints shall be reported in writing to the Dean of Student Life.   If the complaint is about a specific occurrence, the complaint shall be made by the student within ten (10) business days of the occurrence. The College official will take action to resolve the complaint and submit a report to the student other appropriate individuals that are a part of the complaint process.  If the student is not satisfied with the decision of the administrator or if needed, a grievance committee, then the student has the right to appeal to the President of the College. Such appeals must be submitted within 72 hours of notification of denial.
