Narrative:

Lawson State Community College effectively evaluates its success with respect to student achievement, including course completion, state licensing examinations and job placement rates.  The college uses a variety of methods to evaluate its success in relation to its mission.  In the area of student achievement, Lawson State Community College evaluates course completion data and uses that information to facilitate curriculum and course reviews.  Academic course completion data indicates that between fall 2005 and summer 2008, seventy-eight (78%) percent successfully passed their courses. This data also impacts the portion of the mission statement that relates to the college enabling “students to transfer to senior colleges and universities.”  Seventy-eight (78%) percent of liberal arts/transfer students successfully passed academic courses, and ninety two percent (92%) of health professions students successfully passed health professions courses. Eighty six (86%) percent of technical students successfully passed technical courses (Grade Distribution Charts)

The term progress report is also utilized by academic and student services personnel to evaluate the effectiveness of student achievement as well as student retention and attrition. Each Career/Technical Program tracks the progression of its students as far as grade point average is concerned.  The 2007-2008 College Performance Report on Career and Technical Education (Report Page 6) reported that 66% of career and technical students had a grade point average of 2.0 or higher in technical course work.

With respect to student achievement and state licensing, the Practical Nursing and Associate Degree in Nursing Programs are approved by the Alabama Board of Nursing.   A candidate for licensure must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses and the national Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses.
