of improvement based on analysis of the results in each of the following

Narrative:
Lawson State Community College engages
in community/public service. These
efforts are coordinated through the Corporate Services area in the Career and
Technical Education Division, and the Workforce Development area in the
Educational Support Services Division.
More details are provided in the actual reports that are presented as a
part of the table below.
Below is a sample of Unit Plans
approved via the Planning Hearing Process.
Examples will highlight findings and use of results from the 2006-2007
school year and the 2007-2008 school year.

this section.
Corporate Services
compliments the mission of Lawson State Community College by being
responsible for “providing affordable and accessible lifelong learning
opportunities” to the College’s constituents.
Seminars, classes and workshops are held for a variety of training and
skills upgrade opportunities. During the
2006-2007 planning cycle, the unit had three objectives: 1) to achieve $100,000 in billing; 2) to
develop a quarterly newsletter to send to business and industry Human Resources
Departments; and to 3) develop an Advisory Council for Corporate Services.
Actual Results Obtained during the
2006-2007 year were that: 1) the unit billed approximately $128,000 for the
reporting period; 2) one newsletter was printed and distributed; and 3) the
Advisory Committee was formed with representation from ten members of business
and industry.
Under Use of Results, it was reported
that the unit would use the results to improve by doubling the amount of
billing for the 2007-2008 year; increasing the offerings by 50% in the allied
health area through seminars and classes for CEUs; increasing training for
automotive sales personnel in the region by 50%; meeting quarterly with the
Advisory Committee; expanding training offerings in manufacturing and

The Workforce Development area
compliments the mission of Lawson State Community College by providing services
to help develop an effective workforce development system that is responsive to
current and future needs of individuals and businesses. During the 2007-2008 reporting period, the
unit had three objectives: 1) provide a coherent network of resources that link
employers to a pool of qualified applicants and provide job seekers access to
employment and training opportunities; 2) maintain contacts with the civic and
community organizations in promoting the mission of the College; and 3) seek
sources from within the community that need training programs. The Actual Results Obtained showed 1) over
5200 persons visited the One Stop Center (Computer Literacy Flyer)
to get resources and look for employment and training opportunities; 2)
unit personnel served on a number of local and state boards including the
Workforce Development Board, the State of Alabama Family Guidance Center (Letter) and
the Jefferson County Family Guidance Advisory Council; 3) several agencies
including the U.S. Army,(Report) the National Guard, the
Center for Workforce Development, and the Jefferson County Employment Office
sought the services of the Workforce Development area.
Results allowed personnel to: 1) track
the number of clients visiting the Center and find ways to provide service; 2)
collaborate with various groups to provide outreach and workforce development
services; and 3) strengthen the recording-keeping process.(TBI End of Year Report)
