Narrative:

The Alabama State Board of Education (Board Members) is the governing body for the Alabama Community College System and Lawson State Community College.  The State Board of Education Policy 101.03 states that the State Board of Education shall be composed of the Governor, as ex-officio member, and eight elected members. One member shall be elected from each district. State Board of Education members serve for four year terms. Each member shall hold office from the first Monday after the second Tuesday in January following the election.

 

State Board of Education Policy 215.01: Alabama College System Lobbying Activities (Policy 215.01) states the following: 

“The State Board of Education expressly prohibits any institution under its authority, direction, and control from paying with state funds for the services of a lobbyist on a contract or consulting basis.  Any institutional employee engaging in such activities must act in a manner consistent with the expressed intent of the State Board of Education and in accordance with the Board's stated legislative purpose(s).” 

The policy further states the following: 

“System employees who lobby as institutional or system representatives are prohibited from engaging in their official capacities in fund-raising activities for candidates for public office, including the solicitation and donation of funds or services for campaign contributions or the payment of campaign debts.”

State Board of Education policy 216.01: Political Action Committees (Policy 216.01) prohibit institutions from organizing, administering, operating or participating in any political action committee.  Employees of Lawson State Community College shall not use the name of any institution for any political action committee.  The president and other administrators of Lawson State Community College cannot intimate, coerce, threaten, or in any manner attempt to persuade any employee to join and/or make contributions to any political action committee or similar organization.

Lawson State Community College is a public institution and maintains no ties to religious or other external bodies.
