Narrative:
The Alabama State Board
of Education (State Board of Education) has the legal authority and operating
control of the mission, fiscal stability, institutional policy, and related
foundations as defined in Policy 101.01:
State Board of Education: Governance Responsibility (Policy 101.01). The State Board of Education appoints a chancellor
who is responsible for assisting the State Board of Alabama in carrying out its
authority with respect to the management and operation of the Alabama Community
College System. The chancellor is the
chief executive officer of the Department of Postsecondary Education. The president is responsible to the
chancellor for the day-to-day operation of the college. The Alabama Community College System is
housed in the Department of Postsecondary Education which has direct
responsibility to the State Board of Education for the direction and
supervision of educational programs and services provided by the Alabama
Community College System. The Department
of Postsecondary Education provides leadership, service, and regulatory
functions for the member institutions of the Alabama Community College System
to ensure educational accessibility, excellence, and equity for all citizens of
Alabama.
