Narrative:
Lawson State Community College’s policy
regarding the ownership of materials, compensation, copyright issues, and the
use of revenue derived from the creation and production of all intellectual
property are clearly written, published, and distributed. The policy was originally adopted by the
college leadership on February 3, 2000.
It was revised and re-adopted by the Administrative Cabinet on September
15, 2008. (Administrative
Cabinet Minutes) The policy is located in the Institutional
Policies and Procedures Manual. (Intellectual
Property Policy). The Faculty/Staff Handbook is located on the college’s intranet, on CD
and when requested, is available in hardcopy.
The policy is located on the Blackboard (Blackboard Post) announcement page and is accessible to all officially enrolled
students. The policy is located in the Faculty/Staff Handbook as well.
Governed under this policy are the following:

Scope – the policy
applies to all full-time and part-time faculty, staff, administrators, and
students; it includes work that is created, authored, conceived, or invented,
in whose or in part, by the aforementioned groups during the period of
employment, attendance or other relationship.
Intellectual property means patents, trademarks, copyrights, trade secrets
including, but not limited to know-how, show-how, processes, unique materials,
inventions, books, articles, study guides, syllabi, workbooks, manuals,
bibliographies, instructional packages, writings, art works, musical
compositions and performances, literary works, architecture, tests, video or
audio recordings, films, slides, transparencies, charts, graphic materials,
photographic or similar visual materials, film strips, multi-media materials,
three-dimensional materials, exhibits, software, databases, models, machines,
devices, designs, apparatus, instrumentation, circuits, computer programs, and
visualizations, biological materials, chemicals, other compositions of matter,
plants, and records of research.

must be in writing to the Vice President for Instructional Services

Ownership

College
ownership-results from substantial LSCC support including but not limited to
college facilities, equipment, staff support, financial support, computing
and graphic services.

Member ownership-results
when intellectual property is created, authored, conceived, or invented wholly
independent of scope of employment or relationship with the College.
