Narrative:
The President of Lawson State Community College has ultimate responsibility for, and exercises appropriate administrative and fiscal control over the institution’s intercollegiate athletics program. The organizational chart under the Vice President for Administrative and Student Services shows that the President has control over the athletic unit. (Student Life Organization Chart) Alabama State Board of Education Policy 806.01 gives permission for each institution of the Alabama Community College System, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, to participate in intercollegiate athletics provided they are conducted and administered according to the policies of the Alabama State Board of Education, the Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC), and the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The Commissioner of the Alabama Community College Conference is charged with the enforcement of the ACCC and NJCAA policies.
Lawson State Community College
provides four intercollegiate athletic programs. These are found on the College’s website (LSCC Athletics)and in the Athletic
Manual. Fiscal control is exercised by
the President in periodic meetings with the Vice President for Administrative
and Student Affairs regarding athletic, fiscal and administrative
concerns. Annually, the President
reviews and approves the athletic budget . The athletic budget is audited annually as a
part of the Alabama Community College System audit process. The President
receives and reviews the audits on an annual basis. Issues of compliance are reviewed and
reported directly to the President as needed by the Athletic Director, Dean of
Student Life, Compliance Coordinator, and/or the Vice President for
Administrative and Student Services.
Lawson State Community College has an Athletics
Handbook;
that delineates roles, responsibilities, policies and procedures for the
athletic programs. Funding of intercollegiate athletics follows the
institution’s normal planning and budgeting cycle. Funding requests are subject to the approval
of the President.
