The institution evaluates the effectiveness of its administrators on a periodic basis. (Administrative staff evaluations)

Narrative:

 

Lawson State Community College evaluates the effectiveness of its administrators on a periodic basis. Alabama State Board of Education policy 607.01:  Evaluation of Personnel (Policy 607.01).  The policy mandates that each President be responsible for the development and implementation of an evaluation system whereby all instructors and other employees at the respective institution are evaluated at least annually. Individual written evaluation records have to be maintained for all employees.  Alabama State Board of Education Policy 904.01: Institutional Effectiveness: Faculty/Staff Administration Evaluation (Policy 904.01) requires each institution to develop and implement an evaluation system where each instructor and staff member is evaluated at least annually by a supervisor with appropriate education and experience.  The policy also requires that written documentation be maintained. The system is to be used for the improvement of those who are evaluated.  Lawson State’s evaluation system was reevaluated at the time of the merger with Bessemer State Technical College in 2005.  A committee was formed to analyze the processes at both colleges.  The end result was a new process for the merged college with new forms.  Hearings (September 12 email) were held and the process and documents received approval and were adopted. (Minutes from April 18, 2005; Minutes from July 5, 2005) Training sessions were held for all supervisors to acquaint themselves with the new evaluation process.  (September 22 email)

 

The Vice President for Instructional Services via the Academic Dean, initiates the evaluation process by memorandum via e-mail to total personnel including administrative staff. The process begins at the beginning of the spring term with mid-year evaluations.  Annual evaluations are conducted at the end of the semester.

 

The Chancellor evaluates the performance of Presidents.  The results of such evaluations are reported to the Alabama State Board of Education.  President’s serving more than three (3) years are evaluated biennially.*

 

Administrator evaluation components include leadership responsibilities, management of personnel and customer service, professional development, communication and teamwork, professional responsibilities, and technology skills.

 

Completed evaluations are forwarded to the immediate supervisor.  The immediate supervisor reviews all evaluations and forwards the originals to the Office of Human Resources for inclusion in the employees personnel file.  Employees and supervisors are encouraged to maintain a copy of the completed evaluation and applicable documents.

 

Evaluation processes, procedures and related forms are found in the Faculty/Staff Handbook.  The information is also posted on the college’s intranet which is accessible to all full-time and part-time employees.
