Narrative:

Lawson State Community College submitted The Substantive Change Prospectus for the merger of Lawson State Community College and Bessemer State Technical College on April 19, 2005 (Substantive Change Letter April 19). The College received a response via a letter dated April 21, 2005 (Substantive Change Letter April 21) acknowledging receipt of the Prospectus.  The initial approval for the consolidation/merger was granted at the June 2006 meeting of the Commission on Colleges (Actions Taken on June 23, 2005). Final approval from the Commission on Colleges for the substantive change was received in a letter dated July 7, 2006 (Substantive Change Letter July 7) stating that the Commission on Colleges continued accreditation following the review of the merger/consolidation of Lawson State Community College and Bessemer State Technical College.

Lawson State Community College submitted a letter of notification (Substantive Change Letter February 18) to the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools on February 18, 2009 indicating that more than twenty-five but less than forty-nine percent of the degree programs in Accounting, Business Administration, Computer Science, Office Administration, and Business Administration-Education can be obtained via on-line coursework.

The College has an approved internal policy on substantive change (Substantive Change Policy Approved).   The policy requires the Vice President for Instructional Services, on an annual basis, to will notify the President of the implementation of, termination of, or major changes to academic programs, and substantive changes in distance learning offerings and the location of programmatic offerings.  The President will, as needed, notify the Commission on Colleges.
