Narrative:
Lawson State Community College
is in operation and has students enrolled continuously in 17 degree programs. The College has been in
operation since 1949 when it began as Wenonah State Technical Trade
School. During the 2007-2008 Academic
Year the unduplicated headcount was 5,127.
Students are enrolled in 17 degree programs, 15 full certificate
programs and 45 short certificate programs.
During the fall 2008 semester, enrollment was 3,610. Students enrolled in
all (n=17) degree programs (Enrollment
Trends 99-08).
The Alabama State Board
of Education grants colleges the authority to offer programs of study leading
to the Associate in Arts, the Associate in Science, the Associate in Applied
Science, the Associate in Occupational Technologies, certificates, and
short-term certificate programs (Policy 712.01). According to the Alabama
Community College System’s Academic Inventory, Lawson State is
authorized to offer the Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degrees, the
Associate of Science (AS) degree, the Associate of Arts (AA) degree, and the
Associate In Occupational Technologies (AOT) degree. The College is also
authorized to offer certificates (CER) and short certificate (STC) programs, (Academic Awards. The List of Degrees and Certificates) shows the
