William Bell to Address Adult Education Graduates

BIRMINGHAM, AL -  Jefferson County Commissioner William Bell will address graduates of the Adult Education Program at Lawson State Community College on Tuesday, May 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Arthur Shores Fine Arts Building (Birmingham West Campus).   The public is invited to share in this special occasion.

The College will award certificates of completion to the more than 30 students who have passed the General Educational Development (GED) test through the adult learning component.  The graduates are now eligible to receive one three-hour credit course at no charge.   

Commissioner William A. Bell, Sr. was inaugurated to the Jefferson County Commission on November 12, 2008. On that day he was also elected to serve as President Pro-tem for the County Commission. He leads the County Commission in the Departments of Health and Community Services and District One.

Commissioner Bell currently sits on the Department of Finance Committee, Department of Roads and Transportation, Department of environmental Services and the Department of Technology. He is a graduate of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he received his Master’s Degree in Psychology and Guidance Counseling. He also holds a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from Miles Law School. Commissioner Bell came to the County Commission with extensive professional experience in community and economic development in both the public and private sectors.

Dr. Bell has been married for more than 32 years to Dr. Sharon Carson Bell and has 2 children, both graduates of Ramsay High School and the University of Alabama.
