Lawson State to Unveil Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

What:  An unveiling of new electric vehicle charging stations at the Alabama Center for Automotive Excellence at Lawson State Community College.  The media are invited to briefing and for test-drive.

The charging stations were purchased with a contribution from Alabama Power Company. Lawson State has the largest education program for electric vehicle technology in the state. Remarks will be made by Dr. Yvette Richardson, State Board Member District IV; Dr. Perry Ward, Lawson State President; Alabama Power Birmingham Division Vice President, Bobbie Knight; Phillip Wiedmeyer, Alabama Clean Fuels Coalition; and Bessemer Mayor Kenneth Gulley. Other state and local officials will attend. The Tesla, Chevy Volt and Nissan Leaf electric vehicles will be on display.

When:  Monday, Oct. 17 at Lawson State’s Bessemer Campus              
Media are advised to arrive at 10 a.m. for a briefing on the technology. A test drive of the vehicles will be available until 11 a.m.  

Where:  Lawson State Community College, Bessemer Campus, 1100 9th Avenue S.W., Bessemer, AL 35022.  (Directions: From downtown Birmingham take I-20/59 toward Tuscaloosa.  Take the Alabama Adventure Parkway exit 110.  Turn left and travel 0.4 miles.
