C-SPAN VISITS LAWSON STATE ON ITS HISTORIC LOCAL CITIES TOUR

BIRMINGHAM, AL - C-SPAN, Cable-Satellite Public Affairs Network, will visit Lawson State Community College as it begins its 2011 LCV Cities Tour in Birmingham during the week of October 31 through November 4.  They will meet with instructors and students and share information about

C-SPAN’s educational resources, C-SPAN programming, video production and StudentCam as well as address Lawson State and its impact in the community.

During the week, C-SPAN producers will visit various literary and historic sites of the city, interviewing local historians, authors and civic leaders.  The programming recorded in Birmingham will air the weekend of November 26-27.  History segments will air on American History TV (AHTV) on C-SPAN3 and the literary events/non-fiction author segments will air on BookTV on C-SPAN2.  Additionally, the aired segments will be available to view online indefinitely.

C-SPAN has dubbed the regional circuit of eight southeastern cities as its 2011 LCV Cities Tour. That is because C-SPAN producers are travelling in specially detailed Ford Transit Connect vehicles, which C-SPAN is calling Local Content Vehicles (LCV’s).  Outfitted with the most current digital camera, editing and other recording technologies, each member of the LCV team is equipped to shoot and edit video on location as well as make presentations to the community about the work they do for the network.

Birmingham marks the 7th city visited for the 2011 LCV Cities Tour (Tampa, Savannah, Charleston, Frankfort, Charlotte, Knoxville, so far). The tour concludes in December in Baton Rouge.

C-SPAN offers coverage of federal government proceedings and other public affairs programming through its three television channels (C-SPAN, C-SPAN2 and C-SPAN3), radio station and a group of websites.
